What to do in Júzcar?

Mountains and nature

The surrounding nature offers countless experiences in nature with many hiking trails, MTB and TrailRun possibilities. Enjoy Jeep safaris and gastronomic tours to 100% Bellota Iberico - Iberian pork farm and local Bodega -winery. Mountain activities for active vacations like canyoning, via ferratas , caving, and horseback riding.

Activate your senses in the mountain forests, relax and breathe in clean mountain air. We are in Alto Genal- highest part of Genal Valley, and we have the famous karst limestone mountain, second biggest Torcal in the Province of Malaga. Torcal de los Riscos, located in our municipality just above the village.

Down the village there are many rivers with waterfalls and canyons. Water hikes in the rivers and to the waterfalls are fantastic in the summer season.

Genal valley is famous for chestnut trees, they are super green in the spring and blooming beautifully, but in the fall, during mushroom season, forest is with stunningly fine autumn colors - The Copper Forest, that you can't miss! The landscape also fills with cork oaks, gall oaks, holm oaks, so that forest gives cover for the animal life and meat products - that's why this is called Serrania de Ronda. Mountain trails are full of herbs such as rosemary and thymes and wild flowers like rock roses, Spanish broom, lilies and orchids. Genal valley has the best clean air quality in the area, and some people call it “lungs of the province”.

History

On the mountain paths from Gibraltar to Ronda have passed over time different travelers, merchants, preachers, bandits and pilgrims. Now it's a privilege for hikers, and modern day trail trail running competitions. Valley has 15 white villages, and between a net of hiking trails.

Old trails go back in history to the Roman and Medieval times, and even more deep...

You can explore local caves with prehistoric cave paintings. Cave art or Paleolithic art is a broad term for the earliest known art-making in human history. (Fun fact ; There is also a cave painting of reindeer, during the Ice age. Today the reindeer are in Lapland in Finland where the house owners come from). In our mountains and in our village's GranSenderista Tienda de Aventuras , we can investigate Jurassic period and ammonite fossils of 140-200 million years ago.
